The Cold Lake Community Garden is Open for Plot Registration

The Cold Lake Community Garden, which will have private and communal plots available, will head into its inaugural year with a grand opening on May 23rd.

Social Programming Coordinator with The Cold Lake FCSS, Cathy Aust, explains the communal section of the garden’s ability to feed the community. “The communal section of the garden will be weighed, with 50% of the harvest going to the food bank.” Aust explains the other 50% of the food with be divied up between volunteers, “volunteers who have logged hours that week.”In order to be eligible for the produce you must log three hours of work during that week.

Some organizations that have already signed up for the community  garden include, The Phoenix House and The Dr. Margaret Savage Crisis Centre. You can sign up for the communal section of the garden by contacting The FCSS at 780-594-4495.

The garden is looking for volunteers for Saturday, April 25th to help prep it for the season.
