Sunnyside Manor in St. Paul is still seeking support after a service was cut by Alberta Health Services recently. On May 1st, AHS mandated that any resident that could physically leave the manor to shop or run errands would no longer be able to take part in the mobile blood work services supplied by the building.
The decision has been met with backlash. MLA for Lac La Biche-St.Paul-Two Hills Dave Hanson has spoken out against it and other decisions regarding senior care while at the legislature. Last week, the County of St. Paul announced they would be sending a letter urging AHS to allow all residents access to the mobile blood clinic.
The county says it’s worried that residents may have to incur the cost of travel and risk illness to try to get bloodwork done. AHS has yet to comment on the issue.
