Wild weather across the Lakeland produces tornado near St. Paul

A wild storm system on Saturday brought the Lakeland lots of rain, thunder, heavy winds and even a Tornado. The warnings all started at around 2:45 pm as Environment Canada tracked a storm cell moving north-east from Edmonton. The system was said to be moving at about 50 kilometers per hour.

By 3:48 pm the Alberta Emergency Alert System had reported that a tornado had touched down just west of St. Paul. The Alberta Ministry of Municipal affairs has said that no damage from the tornado has been reported. As the storm continued to make its way across north-east Alberta, Bonnyville, Glendon and other communities on Highway 28 experienced heavy winds and rain and pea-sized hail.

The storm came about after Environment Canada had issued heat warnings in parts of the province. Rain is expected around the Lakeland for the next few days.
