Pet Food Bank in Cold Lake looking for help this weekend

A pet food bank in the Lakeland is putting the call out for a little help. The Alberta Lost Pet Locator and Rescue Society offers pet food banks in locations across Alberta, including Cold Lake. The banks can be used by those who are in need. They’ve also been able to offer monetary support for sick pets.

Head Volunteer for the Cold Lake Branch Debbie Marcellus says the history of the bank is one of volunteering and cooperation.

“(The ALPL) Called me up one day and said ‘How about running a pet food bank?’ and I kind of took it from there and ran with it. That’s what we’ve come up with here, with the help of community and friends.”

The bank is hosting a fundraiser to help cover costs of operations on May 27th. Details were posted on the groups Facebook page.

Marcellus says she already has a few committed volunteers for the clean up, but more are always welcome.

“We’ve got probably, or hopefully I should say, about a dozen people on the list so far. Hopefully they all pull through and show up.”

The bank plans to host a few more fundraisers in 2018. Marcellus says those looking to support the bank can find a variety of donation boxes around the community, or can even submit donations online.
