The County of St. Paul is feeling the effects of the warm, dry weather. A level two fire advisory was recently declared in the area to help combat the risk of wildfire. St. Paul Fire Department Chief Trevor Kotowich says the advisory hasn’t affected any camp plans for the long weekend.
“We do allow safe camp fires in camp grounds and other issues. However, any issuance of fire permits or burning of stubble, grass or brush piles can be restricted. We have suspended issuing those burning permits as of right now.”
Kotowich says officials have been keeping an eye on the skies to see if an outright fire ban, such as what the County of Smoky Lake has done, is necessary.
“We are monitoring it county-wide. We are hoping that we are going to see some precipitation but that precipitation has to be substantial enough that we can either lesson the fire advisory or go to a complete ban.”
