Cold Lake restaurant goes straw-less

A restaurant in Cold Lake is hoping to lead by example when it comes to plastic waste. Mamacitas Mexican Restaurant has decided to go straw-less in its drinks. A straw can still be had but it has to be asked for specifically. The eatery says the difference is already noticeable, with only about 10 plastic straws used a week compared to the previous 200.

Mamacitas owners have said that the image of a sea turtle with a garbage straw stuck in its nose was the catalyst for the change. The restaurant hopes to start with a few more environmentally safe ideas including paper bags for take out. Their food containers are already classified as bio-degradeable.
