Utility rate increase proposed for Elk Point

Elk Point residents are looking at a hike to their utility rates. The Town has proposed the increase to cover increased costs, starting with consumption on January 1, 2018.

The Elk Point/St. Paul Regional Water Commission upped its rate from $2.02 per cubic metre to $2.10 at that time. The town is also covering the cost of upgrading its water reservoir and replacing 700 meters with electronic meters.

What’s proposed is a water rate increase of $16 a month for residential customers and $19 a month for non-residential customers. The first billing period would be February 2018.

A public hearing on the hike is scheduled for 7 p.m. on January 22 at the town office. Anyone with comments or concerns can also submit them in writing to the town office by January 17th.
