Regional mapping system project gets provincial funding

The most recent round of provincial Community and Regional Economic Support funding includes $31,300 for the MD of Bonnyville. The CARES funds will go towards creating a publicly accessible mapping system.

The Regional Geographic Information System is a project with the Town of Bonnyville, the Village of Glendon, and the Summer Villages of Bonnyville Beach and Pelican Narrows. The communities want a new way attract potential developers and investors.

“The new system will allow our regional municipalities to provide information immediately in order to open up business opportunities,” says GIS Analyst for the MD Shannon Brassard. “A Regional GIS enables end users to easily see, analyze and understand patterns and relationships within the data.”

Munisight Ltd. has been contracted to create the system. It’s a computer based tool that creates, analyzes, and visualizes data through maps.
