Northern Lights Supports Bill 24

Northern Lights Public Schools has expressed its support for the NDP’s Bill 24, which prevents schools from disclosing to parents if a student is in a Gay Straight Alliance.

The Board will be writing letters to MLAs Scott Cyr of Bonnyville-Cold Lake, David Hanson of Lac La Biche-St.
Paul-Two Hills and Colin Piquette Athabasca-Sturgeon-Redwater expressing its support for the bill and encouraging them to vote in favour of it.

The bill has been met with opposition by the United Conservative Party, though leader Jason Kenney says the party does not support outing students to their parent. Premier Rachel Notley has responded by saying Kenney should support the bill in that case, since there would be no reason not to.
