No Drone Zone Signs to Be Posted Around Cold Lake and 4 Wing

Signs advising that Cold Lake is a no drone zone will be installed throughout 4 Wing and and the city.

The proposal for the signs were first raised by the base to City Council in July, with the intention of putting them at the entrances to the city as well as the front and back entrances of the base. However, council wanted some more information on the signs before approving them. Their concern was that people would think the city enforces the policy and that residents and visitors would phone the city about the issue. The new signs now include the number for Transport Canada.

Recreational drone users have to have a certificate from Transport Canada and permission from the base before using it within the city of Cold Lake. Those who unlawfully fly one can face thousands of dollars in fines and even jail time.

The city has agreed to install the new signs but is now working on an agreement with 4 Wing about where they will be put and who will maintain them.
