Lac La Biche RCMP Charge Two With Car Thefts

Lac La Biche RCMP have arrested two people in relation to a series of car thefts.

RCMP were first notified that a  White pickup truck had been stolen from Mad Oilfield Solutions around 6:30 in the morning on Tuesday. Anther stolen car was recovered at the site during the proceeding investigation.

Later that afternoon, police received another auto theft report from the Calnash Trucking parking lot. The complainant advised that a white pickup truck pulled into the parking lot with a man exiting and stealing it. Both vehicles immediately fled the scene.

Police made extensive patrols, located the suspects in their respective stolen cars and attempted to pull them  over on several occasions. However the vehicles fled at extremely high rates of speed, and were driving dangerously. Police decided to call off the chase for public safety.

One of the vehicles was later located driving on Elinor Lake road, and a pursuit was initiated and ended with the vehicle getting stuck in a field. Two people were found inside and arrested.

A 21-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy are facing charges.

The RCMP would like to take this opportunity to remind the public of the importance of securing their personal property. Taking precautions such as not leaving keys in vehicles or hidden within the vehicle, and not leaving valuables in plain view is certainly a deterrent when it comes to property crime.
