Angler caught with walleye from North Saskatchewan River

An angler is facing charges after he was found with six fresh walleye. An officer was conducting checks along the North Saskatchewan River on May 16th when they came across a vehicle parked at a bridge southwest of Elk Point.

The fish were found in the grass nearby. Lyle Frisby was investigated for poaching, and was fined $3,000 and given a 12 month fishing suspension a month later.

Fish and Wildlife Enforcement explains that it’s illegal to keep any walleye caught from Highway 22/39 downstream to the Alberta/Saskatchewan border since this province has less fish-bearing lakes and rivers than provinces like Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario. It creates more pressure on local bodies of water.
