The Progressive Conservative Party is Expected to Call an Election

Premiere Jim Prentice, and his PC government released their 2015 Budget March 26th, which leaves many speculating, within the next few days, the party will call an early election. Wildrose candidate for MLA of the Bonnyville-Cold Lake constituency Scott Cyr says if the PC are to call an election it would be very distressing for all

Premiere Prentice is expected to drop a rite this week, which would mean Albertans would go to election as early as April 27th. Though an Edmonton lawyer has spoken out saying he would be challenging it should it happen, which would cause the election to be pushed into May.

In other Wildrose party news, the party has elected a leader, Brian Jean.Jean took 55 per cent of the vote to defeat Cypress-Medicine Hat MLA Drew Barnes and former Strathcona County mayor Linda Osinchuk, the party announced in front of about 300 members at the Sheraton Cavalier.

Jean is a former Conservative member, and considering the mass floor crossing led by former Wildrose leader Danielle Smith, it seems almost fitting that the party’s new leader was once a Conservative. Jean has a lot of weight to carry- he must change the mindset of the party after the big deflect and rally the troops for the upcoming election.

Speaking of troops, Shayne Saskiw, MLA for the Two Hills-St. Paul-Lac La Biche Constituency has stated that he will not be seeking re-election, which until recently left his riding open without a Wildrose candidate. On Saturday, March 28th, it was announced David Hanson will be representing the party in the upcoming election.
