The Iron Horse Trail has nearly 35,000 dollars from the province to work with after being approved for a CFEP grant.
The money will go to a wide variety of projects the trail’s stewards have planned, such as fixing and replacing beaten up signs, building new picnic tables for the first time since 2003 and fixing up the buried trestle near Ashmont, which has been eroding steadily over time. There will also be some fencing installed there to discourage people from going up and down the sides.
That’s not the only place fences will be going though. The trail has had to deal with highway vehicles using the trail, which they’re not allowed to be on. More fencing will be installed in the hope of discouraging people from breaking the rules. Only ATVs, snowmobiles, bicycles, horses and good old fashioned walking on your own two feet are allowed to on the trail and trestles. MD of Bonnyville Peace Officers will be making more patrols around the Beaver River Trestle to catch people in the act as well.
