Both Lac La Biche and St. Paul have received provincial Strategic Transportation Infrastructure Program (STIP) grants for road, bridge and airport projects.
The grants are part of $100 million in STIP funding over three years in the province’s 2017 budget—with more than $37 million approved for projects in 2017-18.
The County of Lac La Biche is having a good deal of the costs to replace a bridge covered. The province is shelling out $615,000 for bridge the over Beaver River on Township Rod 633B, 16 km north of the Town of McRae. The county will have to pay $205,000 out of their own pocket.
The County of St. Paul meanwhile has had four different projects approved for help from Edmonton. The province will be chipping in a small amount for two culvert replacements as well as over two million dollars to grade Northern Valley Road. The County will be putting in two million themselves for the other half of that project.
The province is also covering most of the tab to upgrade the runway lighting at the St. Paul airport. Alberta will pay $155917 of the $207,889 project while the town will pay for the remainder.
