Cold Lake Visual Arts Society Holding Show During Rodeo

Cold Lake is a city of many possibilities. Where else can you watch a bunch of cowboys compete for rodeo glory, then enjoy an art gallery on the floor above?

That’s exactly what the Cold Lake Visual Arts Society has in mind. They’ll be holding an art show at the agriplex while the rodeo is taking place on June 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. Admission is free and the art will be for sale.

“This is our third time I think, during the rodeo,” says CLVAS President Linda Dunn. She says crowds have been modest the past few years but she’s hoping to build on that.

“People don’t really understand that we’re up here. We’re on the upper floor of the Agriplex and the rodeo with all the events are taking place outside and downstairs. We haven’t gotten a lot of people through, but [they’re] different people than we usually get involved in art. So we’re getting more of the cowboys and those people that are usually more into rodeo and not into art. We get them coming up and that’s kind of fun.

“But the more we do it, they’ll come to expect it. Then we’ll get more people because they’ll know. It’s just we have to get the ball rolling.”

The society has 29 members, a fair number of whom will have work on display. If you like what you see, the artists will be on hand to talk.
