Update on Bonnyville’s 2019 RBC Cup Bid

Bonnyville’s bid to host the 2019 RBC Cup is coming along quite nicely.

“We got invited by Hockey Canada,” says organizer Robb Hunter. “We had submitted our extensive bid package quite a while ago and its been reviewed by Hockey Alberta, the Alberta Junior Hockey League and the CJHL. It made it through the final stage to Hockey Canada. We got invited by them to present it in person on Tuesday of this week. We’ve just finished doing that and we think it was a pretty successful presentation. Now we’re hoping to hear sometime soon whether we’ll be awarded the 2019 RBC Cup.”

Hunter says that he doesn’t know who any of the other towns bidding for the cup are or even how many there might be. “But we feel we submitted a strong bid and if anyone’s going to be able to beat us, we’ve put our best foot forward and they’ll have to be a pretty successful bid to be successful over us.

It’s a matter of wait and see for the time being now. “We’re anticipating some written questions from Hockey Canada. We’re expecting them sometime next week, then we’ll anticipate having five to ten days to get the best answers and get them back to Hockey Canada. Then we’re anticipating sometime in early June the games will be awarded to whichever community is successful.”

Hunter is thankful for the fantastic community support that he says make these bids possible.
