MD Suspends Hardship Flag Program

The MD of Bonnyville has suspended their Hardship Flag Program effective as of Wednesday evening.

The program allows residents who are unable to clear snow from their property on their own to purchase a flag they can place on the front yard. MD crews will then spend up to fifteen minutes clearing it for them with a snow plow.

The MD received upwards of 12 inches of snow during the spring snowstorm Easter weekend. The heavy, wet snow, coupled with the spring thaw, has led to soft ground conditions. The MD says that these conditions have led to the program’s suspension.

Snow removal crews had attempted to remove snow from driveways. However, due to the soft ground, they found their efforts were simply causing damage to both their equipment and the properties in question.
