Lac La Biche County council really wants Portage Pool to be open to the public on Sundays, but they- and the rest of the county- will have to be patient for a while yet.
Council had directed administration to look further into the matter and come up with a plan at an earlier meeting.
Aquatic Services Coordinator Tegan Chislett explained that opening the facility for five hours on Sundays would mean closing it for six and a half hours on Mondays.
Staffing is an ongoing challenge at Portage Pool, and extensive training is required to become a
certified lifeguard. Aquatic Services has been working with Human Resources to start resolving these issues. Council decided to leave the pool schedule unchanged for the time being but directed Administration to open the facility on Sundays as soon as it is possible. Council also approved an increase in their budget up to 35,000 dollars to acquire and keep more staff.
