The gas in Lac La Biche is extra smelly today, and not because of a really good baked beans sale.
The County’s Utilities department has been flooded with calls from residents concerned about gas leaks in their home, due to them picking up that telltale rotten eggs smell. That smell is added to normally odorless natural gas so that a leak can be detected.
However, it appears somewhere along the line, too much of the odorant was added to the mix and now residents are smelling it even when things are working fine. The department is working to resolve the issue.
However, the county would rather have a busy phone line than a dead family. Thus they ask people to err on the side of caution and call them if they smell the gas in their house. You can reach them at 780-623-7494.
