Lac La Biche County council is looking into opening up Portage Pool on Sundays again.
Council requested some information on the subject back on the March 14th meeting. Aquatic Services Coordinator Tegan Chislett explained that low staffing is an ongoing challenge at the pool. Open swims, for example, require a minimum of three lifeguards. The Recreation & Community Enhancement branch, which manages Aquatic Services, has been working on staffing and outreach strategies. The pool hasn’t been open on Sundays since the summer of 2015.
After some discussion, Council voted to have Administration look into how much it would cost to get the pool open throughout the weekend again, as well as develop a recruitment plan.
Their findings will be presented at Council’s next meeting on April 11th.
