Over $50K Raised For Local Woman With Leukemia

273 people gathered on Saturday to raise over 50,000 dollars for Melissa Styba, a local woman who’s in an Edmonton hospital battling leukemia.

“Melissa’s Fight” was held in the Beaver River Fish and Game Building with a dinner and dance afterwards. The money raised will go directly towards her family’s gas and hotel costs as they visit her in the city over the next six weeks. Thinkwerx was a major help getting the money together, providing many services for free and selling special hoodies leading up to the event, donating 100 percent of the revenues. In total, Thinkwerx alone was able to round up 18,000 dollars for the family.

The night also included a silent auction, poker tournament, horseshoes being sold and a 50/50 draw. In an act of further generosity, the 50/50 winner donated their winnings back.

The Stybas are involved in a lot of local charity work and nonprofits, including Lakeland Friends and the Scouts. Melissa Styba was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia on February 23rd.
