St. Paul Animal Shelter Holding Fundraiser for New Building

The St.Paul Animal Shelter hopes to take a big step towards their 250,000 dollar goal to build a new shelter with their fundraiser this coming weekend.

“There’s going to be a lot of family games going on and kids games. It’s really family orientated” says shelter manager Krystal Cardinal.

The fundraiser will be held at the St. Paul Rec Centre from 11 to 5 on Saturday. Admission is free but the shelter will raise funds through charging for the individual activities.

“There’s going to be bouncy castles there too,” adds Cardinal. “Face painting, glitter tattoos, there’s going to be an area where you can adopt a [stuffed animal] pet… there’s some stuff too for adults. There’s going to be a garage sale going on at the same time and a silent auction too. So a little mix of everything for everybody.”

The shelter is applying for a 250,000 dollar CFIP grant from the federal government. If they get the grant they’ll have to match the amount themselves. So far they’ve managed to raise about a hundred thousand.

Cardinal is determined to achieve the goal no matter what. “The thing is, if we do not get this grant,no ifs ands or buts we’re still going to get this building going and that means putting everything we have raised towards this new building.”
