Military Training Excercise Being Conducted in Cold Lake

The Canadian military is currently conducting a training operation near 4 Wing Cold Lake and Cold Lake Provincial Park until Friday.

About 100 soldiers from the Lord Strathcona’s Horse are partaking in Exercise Steele Skade. It’s meant to train soldiers for operations in a very cold environment. With temperatures plunging as low as minus 30 in the area, it’s certainly a good week for that.

Cold Lakers shouldn’t be too surprised if they see armed soldiers in winter camouflage by the lake and some military vehicles moving around. They may also see a CC-138 Twin Otter from 440 Transport Squadron, based in Yellowknife, NWT land and take off from the lake.
