RCMP Reminds Drivers to Buckle Up

RCMP are reminding everyone to buckle up after noticing the number of drivers using seatbelts is dwindling. There was a around 95 per cent of Albertans using their belts in 2011 according to Alberta Transportation. Last year, there were over 10 thousand tickets issued in the province. Officer Steve Daley says putting on a seat belt is the smart thing to do as it improves your chances of surviving a serious collision by 50 per cent. On top of that, it is also the law and it is a 155 dollar fine for not wearing a seatbelt. Children under 6 or under 40 pounds must also be in a proper car seat. The same fine applies when kids are not in a seat when they should be.
