LARA Looking for Farmland to Conduct Research On

The Lakeland Agricultural Research Association (LARA) is looking for a couple acres of farmland in Lac La Biche County from a willing volunteer to carry out tests on newly developed crops, herbicides and more.

The Association plans to try and grow quinoa, which is just starting be planted in northeastern Alberta for the first time. The group is part of province-wide trials on cereal crops and canola as well, to see how specific varieties handle the Lakeland region’s soil. Trials for new herbicides and fungicides are common as well.

The plot needs to be canola or pulse crop stubble. The land should be relatively flat to ensure accurate research results can be obtained and highway frontage is preferred. LARA will compensate for the use of the land upon discussion with the landowner.
