Simon Cardinal Wanted After Fleeing Police

23-year-old Simon Cardinal of Elizabeth Metis Settlement is wanted by police after fleeing arrest on February 18th.

Police were dispatched to a possibly impaired driver on 57th street just after 2 in the morning. The driver was parked in the road and appeared to be passed out behind the wheel. The officer attempted to arrest the driver when he was assaulted and the suspect drove off. The officer was momentarily caught in the moving vehicle but was able to get out.

The vehicle turned out to be stolen and was seen again a short while later. Police engaged in a pursuit and threw down a spike strip, puncturing three tires. The suspect fled on foot into the woods and police were unable to track him down from there.

Simon Cardinal has been charged with Assaulting a Police Officer With a Weapon, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Flight while Pursued by Police, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000, Possession of a Weapon x 2, Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000, Drive While Unauthorized, Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle, Display Unauthorized Plate, and Possession of Methamphetamine. Simon Cardinal is also wanted on a Canada Wide Warrant for his arrest in relation to violating conditions of his parole.
