Vegreville Man Arrested For Illegal Guns, Homemade Bombs

27-year-old Alexander Bugghins of Vegreville is in custody after RCMP found a sawed off loaded rifle and homemade explosives in his backpack.

Police found the man around 5:30 in the afternoon on Thursday, believing he might have a prohibited firearm and ammunition. The explosives appear to have been a bit of a surprise.

In addition to the gun and bombs, the suspect had over 350 rounds of .22 caliber ammunition in the backpack as well.

Due to the high risk nature of homemade or improvised explosive devices, the Explosives Disposal Unit went to the Vegreville detachment to take the explosives for further analysis.
