Canadian Red Cross Looking For Disaster Response Volunteers in Cold Lake

The Canadian Red Cross is looking for volunteers in Cold Lake who will rise to the challenge should disaster ever strike the city.

The Canadian Red Cross disaster management teams respond to small and large scales disasters such as house and forest fires. The Cold Lake Personal and Emergency Response Disaster Assistance Team are on call to help individuals, families and communities affected by disasters by providing emergency relief such as food, clothing and shelter. They are also available to provide long term recovery operations (registration and inquiry, manage shelters etc.) during major disasters across the country.

The Cold Lake and district disaster management team was founded in 2015 in the wake the forest fires in Saskatchewan, where evacuees were lodged in the Energy Centre. The Red Cross held a recruitment drive after finishing the operation and were able to bring on a handful of community members. Now they’re hoping to get some more.

The volunteer information night will be held at the Cold Lake and District FCSS on March 23rd, from 6:00 to 8:30. Volunteers will be on-call on a weekly rotation for small scale emergencies and are always on standby in the event of a major one.
