The Lakeland Catholic School District Wants to Expand in Lac La Biche.

Lakeland Catholic School District (LSCD) wants to open a new Catholic school in Lac La Biche. The District has an existing building in mind that should keep provincial costs low and will look into opening the school for September2015. On March 18th, the School Board met and voted with 93% approval on this initiative, which will become the division’s top priority of their 3 year Capital Plan.

LSCD will continue with its other priorities, set previously this year, including finding a new k through 12 school in Waskatenau, as the current building has health and safety issues such as a dirt basement, no handicap access to classrooms and a mechanical system failing. The estimated cost of that project is $8.87 million.

The next priority for LCSD is finding a new Grade 9-12 Catholic high school in Cold Lake, which is estimated to cost $2.2 million. LCSD will spend an estimated $5.68 million on renovations and an addition to St. Dominic Elementary School in Cold Lake. LSCD is already underway with its final priority of its 3 year Capital Plan of modernizing Notre Dame High School in Bonnyville.
