Winter Festival of Speed Feb 25th and 26th

Lac La Biche is getting ready the 2017 Winter Festival of Speed on February 25th and 26th.

Events for racing cars, snowmobiles, motorcycles, and quads will all be held over the weekend as racers navigate the frozen lake for first place.

Western Racing Champions will be crowned, but there are other winners too. Local groups will benefit from the money raised.

“When we launched our first Winter Festival of Speed 25 years ago we decided to give back to the community” says Ken Staples, Festival Event Coordinator. “The festival snowballed and as we added more events, more groups came forward and ultimately helped make our event the success that it is. We are proud to have donated more than $150,000 to 30 local organizations. Talk about a win-win!”.

The festival features family-friendly activities: sleigh rides, skating, kids carnival, and for the moreadventurous, axe-throwing. The charity race is always a huge draw and provides local drivers a chance to see what it’s like behind the wheel.

Each year, organizers create a smooth runway on the icy lake and more than 50 pilots maneuver their landing gear for Canada’s only Ice Fly-In.

The flag drops for the first race of the 2017 Winter Festival Saturday, February 25th at 1:00pm. Mayor of Lac La Biche County Omer Moghrabi will do the honours.
