Cold Lake Looking Into Honouring Former Town of Grande Centre

The City of Cold Lake wants to honour the former town of Grande Centre. At City Council’s recent meeting, on March 17th, Councillors brainstormed ideas on how to honour the former town of Grande Centre.

In 1996, Grande Centre – now Cold Lake South- and Medley – the base – amalgamated with Cold Lake to form the city. There were different ideas thrown around, including renaming a street, which was deemed to expensive. Another idea was to have signage around where Grande Centre was to pay tribute to the former town. Council expanded on that with the idea to name that section of the city “Grande Centre”. The idea would be much like how Edmonton names different sections of its city.

Council wants to remain sensitive to The City’s resident’s feelings, as well as the area that was formerly Medley’s history. City staff is checking on this idea and various others with the Economic Development and Culture Committee before submitted a budget and a plan to council for a vote.
