New Water System, New Bills For Ashmont, Lottie Lake

Ashmont and Lottie Lake have had a brand new water system running since December, but with the better tap water comes an increased utility bill.

The County of St. Paul has settled on a flat 60 dollar a month rate for residents as well as four dollars and ninety cents per cubic metre used, starting on March 14th.

Mallaig’s connection to the system is still in the works so their rate has been set at 26 dollars a month and 3-49 a cubic metre. Matters have been complicated by the fact that Mallaig is not in the same water basin as the other two communities, thus has to wait on an interbasin transfer approval to get hooked up to the line.

Special rates for Ashmont School and the Senior’s Lodge still have to be determined.
