MD Approves Washroom Renos For Beaverdam Community Hall

With a new year, another round of funding for the various community halls is on the table for the MD of Bonnyville.

Two applications were presented to council at Wednesday’s meeting. The first was a standard Operating Grant of 25,000 dollars for 2017 from the Willow Prairie Agricultural Society in La Corey. Council voted unanimously to approve.

The second came from the Beaverdam Community Society looking for some renovations to their community hall’s bathrooms. Of the $28,760 price tag, the society had already gotten 50% of the funding from the province and were able to put up 5% themselves, leaving the remaining 45% ($12,942), a decision for council whether they’d foot the bill or not. Ultimately, the request was granted.

The renos will  be comprehensive, including new toilets, urinals, sinks and new counter tops in the women’s room. New stall dividers and flooring will be installed as well. The Society said in their application that old pipes and leaky fixtures were creating a loss of revenue from rentals, as interested parties were being turned off by the condition of the facilities.
