Councillor Praises World Junior A Challenge Organizers

Town of Bonnyville Councillor Ray Prevost took some time out of Tuesday’s council to praise the organizers and volunteers for the excellent job they did on the World Junior A Challenge last month.

“It was one of the best shows I’ve seen in Bonnyville in years and years” Prevost remarked during committee reports. “I had a pretty neat job there. I was providing security for all the scouts. I talked to the guy from Hockey Canada and (he) was telling me with these tournaments, for the most part around the fourth day you start to hear the complaints. Complaints about the ice, complaints about the officiating, complaints about the food in town, complaints about the hotel and so on.  As of Thursday they had not heard a complaint about anything in The town of Bonnyville, it was that good.”

Even the NHL scouts who attended the tournament were pleased with their stay. “They were extremely pleased. The accommodations were excellent, the busing was excellent. A lot of questions about the building and the rink, which speaks volumes about the kind of show we put on. I just think it was a spectacular show.”

Prevost adds that the Challenge’s success could pay dividends in the future. “I think that group, because they did such a wonderful job have probably placed themselves in a pretty good position in the future maybe to apply for the RBC Cup somewhere down the line.”

The World Junior A Challenge was held from December 11th to 17th at the RJ Laldone Arena with the USA beating Team Canada East 4-0 in the gold medal game.
