RCMP Attend Two Accidents At Same Intersection Within 14 Hours

Bonnyville RCMP find themselves investigating two car accidents that occurred at the same intersection right by the detachment within less than 24 hours of each other.

The first happened on January 2nd around 4 in the afternoon when a car was T-boned by a service truck. Icy conditions caused the driver of the car to slide into the intersection. The 52-year-old from Fort McMurray was transported to Edmonton for treatment though police say they’ve heard he is in stable condition. The driver of the service truck was not harmed.

The second incident 14 hours later resulted in charges. This crash involved a pickup truck and a tractor trailer.  Officers who were inside the Detachment at the time heard the collision take place and immediately looked out a window. Two men got out of the truck and tried to flee the scene. Police tracked the suspects down and located them hiding in some nearby farm equipment. Both were believed to be intoxicated and were arrested at the scene without incident. The 58 year old driver of the tractor trailer suffered a broken leg and was treated in Bonnyville.

22-year-old Quinton Mykat of Saddle Lake stands charged with leaving the scene of an accident and numerous impaired driving type offences. He was operating a rental vehicle that had been loaned to him by a 3rd party.
