Another legal challenge filed against Trans Mountain pipeline

A group of environmentalists are challenging the federal government’s approval of the Trans Mountain pipeline in court. A request for judicial review was filed with the Federal Court of Appeal in Calgary late Monday.

The $6.8 billion Kinder Morgan expansion was given the green light in late November, but there’s at least eight legal challenges against it.

Lawyers for Ecojustice are acting on behalf of the Living Oceans Society and Raincoast Conservation. They say the Liberals didn’t properly take into account the project’s impact on endangered killer whales. Oil tanker traffic from a port in Burnaby will increase from five ships a month to about 34.
