Shop-a-PAW-Looza Auction a Success For Humane Society

Not everybody with a winning bid has claimed their items yet, but the Lakeland Humane Society’s Shop-a-PAW-looza Facebook auction has already surpassed last year’s totals, crossing over 14,000 dollars in funds raised.

“We were really pleased,” says Shelter Manager Kathy Oliffe-Webster, “It was pretty exciting. We were doing a rough tally, going ‘are we going to do it? Are we going to do it?’ and then we did. I loved everything about it this year. People donated awesome things, people were bidding a lot. It was a lot of fun.”

A large portion of the funds raised will go towards the long-term project of building a new shelter. Oliffe-Webster says the goal is to begin in late 2017. “We still haven’t decided on an exact property yet. We’re still working that out, but hopefully some time next year we’ll to break ground.”
