Cenovus Pulls Funding for Portage College Power Engineering Course

The oil crash continues to make its presence felt in the Lakeland. Portage College has announced that the 4th Class Power Engineering program has been suspended on their Cold Lake campus.

The program was being funded by Cenovus, who unfortunately won’t be able to continue doing so after the current academic year. However, the company has donated 20,000 dollars in future scholarship money to the school to make it up.

Although the college isn’t able to fund the Cold Lake program on their own, prospective students aren’t completely without options. “The College will continue to provide the 4th Class Power Engineering program at the Lac La Biche Campus,” a press release from Portage reads. “The demand for the program by students has softened significantly in the current academic year as a result of the downturn in the prospective jobs therefore we anticipate that we would be able to accommodate students from the Cold Lake Campus who are willing to relocate for schooling.”
