Cold Lake Firefighters Honured For Fort Mac Fire Efforts

23 Cold Lake Fire-Rescue Firefighters received thanks from the province last night for their help in the fight against the Fort McMurray fires earlier this year.

“We sent up five crews,” says Fire Chief Jeff Fallow. “We sent three at the initial start of it to help throughout the first ten days. Then before the citizens came back we sent another two crews up near the end of May to help around the city proper.”

“As a fire service person I’m pretty proud of everybody that went and those that didn’t. When the initial ask went our the membership response was amazing. I had more people wanting to go then we could send. Obviously we also had to protect our own community so  we sent crews as we could. I think most of us went just to help out. There was over sixty fire departments that went up there I believe to help out. It was a huge team effort by fire services from around the province.”
As well, eight firefighters also received their Alberta Emergency Services Medal last night, signifying twelve years of service.
