Alberta Unemployment Rate Jumps to 9%

Although statistics for the Wood Buffal0-Cold Lake region are not being released, we do know that the unemployment rate across Alberta jumped half a percent last month to 9.

Figures aren’t being released from the northeast of the province as Fort McMurray recovers from the wildfire. This time last year the unemployment rate was 8.1 per cent. It appears most of the province’s unemployment rate can be attributed to Calgary, whose rate – while down 0.1 per cent from last month- is sitting at 9.9.

Two and a half hours down the road from Bonnyville in Edmonton, things are looking better. The unemployment rate in the city dropped to 6.4 per cent from 6.9 in October.
