Cold Lake residents have until January 20th to nominate a woman doing great work in the community.
The Cold Lake Women of Influence Awards are back for another year on March 10th. “This is an event to celebrate International Women’s Day, which is on March 8th,” says committee member Audrey McFarlane. “This is our way of looking at the contribution women have made to Cold Lake and (the surrounding) area.”
Five awards are up for grabs based on nominations by community members. Nominees can be submitted Arts and Culture, Business and Professional, Community and Volunteerism and Health and Wellness. From those four categories the committee then selects an overall Woman of Influence. Last year’s overall recipient, Patricia Coulter will be the keynote speaker this year.
“We’re really looking for women who made a positive contribution to their community,” says McFarlane. “It doesn’t have to be something that gets international recognition, but certainly we’re looking for women who are displaying creativity, or leadership, or influence, or great community spirit. Those are the kind of women we’re looking for.”
Tickets to the March 10th awards ceremony are on sale now and are 25 dollars a person. Nominations can be completed online at www.womenofinfluencecoldlake.org or dropped off in person to the Committee in care of the Lakeland Centre for FASD at 4823 – 50 Street, Cold Lake, AB or emailed to [email protected]
