Fentanyl a Continued Presence in Cold Lake

Fenatanyl has found its way to pretty much every Canadian city in the past couple years, and Cold Lake is no different.

“In general it does exist here,” says Staff Sgt. Jeremy Landy with the Cold Lake RCMP. “We do encounter it. We do come across it. It isn’t something we come across as often as other drugs such as marijuna, coacaine and mephamphetimine, but it is something that does exist in the area. Any quantity is too much, especially when dealing with a drug as powerful and deadly as fentanyl.”

Landry says the rate that at which it has been popping up in the city has been reasonably steady over the past while. One resident did die of an overdose about a year and a half ago but no fatalities related to the drug have been reported since. He adds that an inter-agency meeting was held on October 26th in Cold Lake, where fentanyl was one of the subjects touched on at length. A representative from RCMP Headquarters gave a presentation on the drug’s dangers and what officers need to look out for.
