The City of Cold Lake is considering a compassionate grant program for those affected by sewer backups. Certain residents in Cold Lake South are unable to obtain insurance, stating that companies won’t take them on because of the history of the area having sewage problems. Even with the upgrades to the city’s sewer system residences are still experiencing backups, which have proven to be very expensive to fix.
The city of Cold Lake is looking into providing relief for these residences through a grant program, the program has been seen to be effective in Ontario where similar problems have occurred and it is not an admission of fault. The grant would be in the low thousands.
