The owners of Beantrees Cafe are trying to bring some arts and Culture to Cold Lake with a new Theatre.
They’ll be hosting an Open House this Sunday at 6:30 to get some feedback from the public on The Grand Parlour as they plan to call it.
“We’ve been working on this for a few months now,” says co-owner Craig Konechny. “We’ve been talking back and forth with council just to get a feel for what we’d have to do with land use changes and all that for downtown. We’ve been talking with downtown businesses as well and everyone seems to be pretty excited about it. We’re grateful for that.”
The venue is planned to have about a hundred seats and be used for other activities in the local arts scene as well. “Our goal in creating this space is to drive the Arts and Cultural Community and provide a high quality venue that we can all enjoy,” says the cafe on their Facebook page. “We wish to partner with other groups and societies to help facilitate working relationships that are sustainable long term. We will discuss our ideas for events and partnerships we are looking to create and our focus on driving our youth into being creative and positive thru the Theatre School Programs.”
“The feedback has been almost 100% positive,” says Konechny. “I never would have guessed in a million years that I would have been building an Arts and Culture venue in Cold Lake.”
Some rough drafts of what the venue might look like will be at the open house, but those are subject to change before the building is completed.
