H5N1 victim loved helping people, says family

The family of the young health care worker who died after contracting H5N1 has made a statement about the Red Deer woman’s death via Alberta Health Services.

The statement says the woman grew up in China and decided to come to Canada to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse. She wanted to help people and earned a job at the Red Deer Regional Hospital as a registered nurse. She married over a year ago and saved money for a trip which she took with her mother to China in December.

She is described as energetic, and a light in any room. The woman passed away January 3rd after falling ill on the flight home from China.
