CLFN Woman Appointed to National Energy Board

The National Energy Board – which is responsible for approving all new pipeline projects in Canada – now has some very local representation.

Wilma Jacknife of the Cold Lake First Nations will be one of four temporary members appointed to the board. She has been one of  the First Nation’s in-house legal counsels for 11 years and sports an impressive list of credentials. Those include three bachelor degrees, a masters degree and a Doctorate of Juridical Science. Her career includes a multitude of awards such as the Aboriginal Role Models of Alberta Justice Award in 2007 and the Tribal Chiefs Institute Recognition Award.

The government says the four appointed members will be making their way along the proposed route of the Energy East Pipeline, speaking and consulting with the affected communities along the way.

“Major resource projects must go through a thorough technical review and engagement and consultation process. I am confident these four individuals will ensure the process is thorough and I encourage Canadians to take part in the Energy East review process as this will help inform our decision,” said Minister of Natural Resources Jim Carr.
