Friendship Centre Thanksgiving Draws Huge Turnout

The Bonnyville Friendship Centre’s free Thanksgiving meal on Thursday at the Beaver River Fish and Game Building might have drawn a record attendance.

Pauline Mawer says she hasn’t gotten a final count in yet, but estimates 250 people showed up. “I think we ran out of just about everything. I think we had mashed potatoes left. That’s about it.” Representatives from the town of Bonnyville, the local RCMP detachment and Atco Electric all came by to volunteer as well.

Mawer says the Centre isn’t resting on its laurels however, and is looking to their next big event. “We’re now looking forward to the Christmas Dinner. That one will have more than 250 because Santa comes by with a gift for the children in attendance. We’re just gonna gear up for that. It’s a lot of work but it’s a lot of fun and it’s very rewarding to be able to give to the community like that.”

The Christmas Dinner will be at the St. Louis Parish Hall on December 9th.
