Reducing False Alarms

Residents and business owners are asked to help reduce the number of false alarms. The Bonnyville RCMP Detachment would like to remind residences and business owners to be aware of their alarm systems and keep the monitoring companies up-to-date with contact information.

Due to the high volume of false alarm calls the police attend the detachment has started enforcing the town bylaws. A copy of the bylaws can be found on The Town of Bonnyville’s website.

Other tips to reduce the number of false alarms are the public should be aware of the panic buttons if placed on keychains to make sure they are not bumping against other objects and to ensure the motion sensors are not triggered by household animals. The police must attend every alarm call, and with multiple false alarms coming in daily this takes a lot of resources away from the detachment. They are hoping with the enforcement of the bylaws citizens will become more vigilant with cutting down on false alarms.
