Two Men Shot at at Marie Lake Residence

A 61-year-old man from Marie Lake is facing multiple charges after two men were shot at on his property.

The two men were on a service call for assistance when Irvin Poirier was said to have shot at them from his window while they stood at the door then again as they were running away. None of the bullets hit.

Cold Lake RCMP contained the area and evacuated a few nearby homes. Police were unable to establish contact with the man inside the residence despite continuous efforts over several hours. Entry into the residence was made by the RCMP’s Emergency Response Team and the man subsequently surrendered.  A search warrant was then executed by police at the residence with several loaded firearms and ammunition being seized.  The man was transported to the Cold Lake detachment and remanded into custody.

Poirier faces charges of:

  • Careless use of a firearm (x2)
  • Pointing a loaded firearm (x2)
  • Discharging a firearm with intent (x2)
  • Assault with a weapon (x2)
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

He will appear in Cold Lake Provincial Court on Sept. 28, 2016, at 10:00 a.m.

RCMP will not release any further details.
